Irene Chang recently joined Bank of Hawaii as senior vice president and director of data engineering & architecture. She is responsible for leading the bank’s data engineers and architects in designing, developing and implementing scalable data solutions that align with the organization’s strategic goals. In her new role, Chang will drive the architecture of Bank of Hawaii’s data systems, while ensuring the integrity, availability and security of its data and overseeing management of the bank’s data infrastructure and pipelines.

Prior to joining Bank of Hawaii, Chang worked at Goldman Sachs for more than 19 years, holding leadership positions in New York, Tokyo and London, where she championed mission-critical data platforms and spearheaded large-scale projects for equities, fixed income, derivatives and asset servicing businesses. Instrumental in the migration of data centers across the Asia Pacific region, Chang developed real-time market data integration solutions, helping to ensure system resilience and operational efficiency. Earlier in her career at General Motors and Delphi Automotive Systems in Japan, she led engineering projects for large automotive companies such as Toyota and Honda, earning multiple awards for her technical and project management expertise in highly collaborative, multilingual environments.

Chang earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Tufts University in Massachusetts. She was the co-chair of the Goldman Sachs Women In Technology, Integration and Community Committee and part of the Goldman Sachs Women’s Career Strategies Initiative. Chang participated in the Japan-America Math Symposium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a member of the Society of Women Engineers. She also served as a mentor and coach to middle and high school girls with Girls Who Code, which works to close the gender gap in tech in classrooms.
